Laser Engraving on Metal in Dubai: Steel, Aluminium, Brass & Stainless Compared
Not all metal laser engraving is equal. We compare CO2 vs fibre laser performance on mild steel, aluminium, brass, and stainless steel — with real Dubai project specs.
Fibre Laser vs CO2 Laser on Metal
CO2 lasers (10,600nm wavelength) are absorbed poorly by bare metals — they work on anodised aluminium and coated metals but cannot engrave bare stainless or brass directly. Fibre lasers (1,064nm) are absorbed efficiently by all metals and are the industry standard for metal marking and engraving in Dubai.
Mild Steel
Fibre laser creates deep, oxidised marks on mild steel — ideal for industrial part marking, tool engraving, and heavy-duty nameplates. Can be painted or powder-coated after engraving for contrast. Common in Al Quoz workshop orders.
Anodised Aluminium
The most popular metal for corporate gifts in the UAE. CO2 or fibre laser removes the coloured anodised layer to expose bright aluminium. Crisp, permanent, and highly legible in both Arabic and English. Used for business card holders, luggage tags, and panel nameplates.
Brass
Fibre laser engraving on brass produces a rich golden contrast — popular for trophies, plaques, and heritage gifts. Natural brass patinas over time; lacquer coating recommended for preservation. Lead time: same day to 48 hrs.
316L Stainless Steel
The most durable metal engraving substrate. Fibre laser annealing creates permanent black or blue marks without removing material — rated for outdoor, marine, and food-grade environments. Used in hospitality (cutlery sets, kitchen equipment), industrial, and luxury gift sectors.
